"THE RIDERS"

A communal project gathering strangers to ride public transportation in Salamanc, Spain, 2006.

This piece was a direct esthetic experiment of the real--The passengers functioned as shapers of experience rather than as carriers of communication. The need for an art object, or an artifact, vanished. It wasn't a matter of making paintings or objects at all. What we were really dealing with was our state of consciousness and the shape of our perception.
This was a new type of beauty. The beauty of situation.
